About Sounding Future
Sounding Future was founded in January 2024 by music festival producer and curator Fränk Zimmer. The freely accessible online platform is dedicated to technical and artistic innovations in the fields of music and audio technology. Since its launch, musicians, composers, researchers, and start-ups have published over 75 articles. The topics range from music and AI to 3D audio, innovative interfaces, and artistic projects. In addition, Sounding Future offers a curated selection of DIY tutorials, books, and podcasts that deal with innovative music and current trends in music technology. With the 3D AudioSpace, Sounding Future is now going one step further - after so many words about music, the focus is finally on the music itself.
What is the technology behind it?
3D audio is made possible by binaural audio technology. Binaural means “with both ears”. In audio technology, binaural audio refers to sound processing that is modeled on natural human hearing. A differentiated spatial perception of sound is created through the targeted manipulation of time, volume, and frequency differences between the left and right ear. This opens up new possibilities for composers by allowing them to position sound sources in their works precisely in space. Our workflow is such that we receive audio material from artists in audio formats such as Ambisonics, Surround 5.1, etc. and then convert this into 3D audio. With conventional headphones, a realistic, three-dimensional sound image can be created. We also offer all tracks in stereo, which can be played through speakers.
