Europe has been a laboratory and pioneer of avant-garde electronic music for over a century. Avant-garde simply means being ahead of your time and daring to do things that have not yet been heard, realized, or thought of. raster is looking for bold new concepts, compositions, and groundbreaking recorded music of all genres. The best submissions will make up a European Soundtrack 2025.

To be guided by one's personality, one's thoughts, and one's own experiences and not by the successful models of the past. How might a new European electronic music sound that originates from itself and the personalities of its creators? Radical? Elegant? Deconstructed? Reconstructed? A mixture of everything?

Anyone residing in Europe can participate and submit, regardless of their origin or EU membership. The shortlisted and nominated works will be presented together with our partners in the media room in 2024 and 2025. Nominated works should become an integral part of the activities of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.

A total of 20 submissions from the following five categories will be presented in a compilation series published by raster media as part of the European Open Call.

  • Europe of timbres and ambiences. 
  • Europe of sounds and of the concrete. 
  • Europe of intuition and improvisation.
  • Europe of rhythms, beats and dances. 
  • Utopian Europe of open borders and technological transfer.
