Researchers from all over the world share their knowledge and latest work during the conference. The conference began as a workshop at the CHI conference in 2001 and has been held annually around the world ever since. NIME2024 will take place in Utrecht from September 2-6, 2024.

The conference will take place on-site, but will also offer the opportunity to follow the conference online. This year's edition is organized by three institutions: Sounds Like Touch, Gaudeamus, and HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht). The conference is partly embedded in the Gaudeamus Festival 2024. This festival attracts around 3000 (inter)national visitors every year and presents the Gaudeamus Award, a promotional prize for composers under 35 years of age. Visitors to the Gaudeamus Festival are known to be interested not only in new music, but also in new ways of making it. There will also be many concerts of interest to the NIME audience, and an off-NIME program is part of it.
